The Keller Funnel®2 allows Dr. Duclos to propel a silicone gel implant into the surgical pocket without contact with the skin, which greatly minimizes the risk of contamination of the implant during its insertion.
Designed by surgeons, the Keller Funnel®2 delivers the implant into the surgical pocket with less friction than the traditional method. Its simple design, composed of a flexible and transparent polymer film, coated with an extremely lubricating hydrophilic coating, allows surgeons to visualize and completely control the implantation of the implant.
The implant passes effortlessly through the funnel and into the surgical cavity. Hundreds of thousands of funnels have been used successfully to place silicone gel implants by surgeons around the world.
The Keller Funnel is therefore a simple and ingenious device which resembles a funnel or a piping bag. It greatly facilitates the introduction of the implant while respecting its intrasec qualities, the procedure thus being non-traumatic. We can also reduce the size of the incision and reduce post-operative pain and complications.
The different stages of preparing and using the Keller Funnel:
1) OPENING OF THE KELLER FUNNEL:
Dr. Duclos cuts the opening of the Keller Funnel pouch according to the format and type of silicone gel implant to be used during surgery.
2) HYDRATION OF THE KELLER FUNNEL:
Subsequently, Dr. Duclos hydrates the pouch in a sterile saline solution to activate the coating on its interior walls.
3) IMPLANT TRANSFER:
The silicone gel implant is also moistened and is transferred directly from its packaging into the pouch. With a round implant, the transfer is contactless.
4) INSERTION OF THE IMPLANT:
Finally, Dr. Duclos delicately inserts the implant inside the surgical cavity using pressure on the Keller Funnel.
